A 23-year-old man is accused of killing his 73-year-old lover and pouring cement over his body in a bathtub in one of Hawaii’s most exclusive gated communities.
Juan Barron has pleaded not guilty to murdering the man.
When Baron was arraigned on Thursday, according to court records, he made that plea.
Gary Ruby’s decomposing body was excavated last month from a bathtub encased in cement in his Hawaii-Loa Ridge home.
Honolulu police say Baron covered the cement with coffee grounds in order to mask the smell. Police reported that Baron planned to fraudulently take Ruby’s car and home.
When the Los Angeles Police Department found Baron hiding in a crawl space on the back of a Mexico-bound bus in Anaheim, California, he was arrested and later taken back to Honolulu.
Baron is being detained and does not have money for bail. His attorney requested a Spanish interpreter for a bail hearing, which was scheduled for Monday.
