Big Island Candies debuts Guava Macadamia Nut Shortbread in time for Merrie Monarch

Just as spring makes its arrival, a new flavor of shortbread is bearing fruit at Big Island Candies.

Guava Macadamia Nut Shortbread adds to the company’s products inspired by tropical fruits, which currently include pineapple shortbread, coconut shortbread, passion fruit mochi brownies, and chocolate covered passion fruit brownies.

“Listening to the requests of customers who adore the Bite Size Guava Macadamia Nut Cookie, we decided to use that general flavor profile as a starting point for our new shortbread variation,” said Sherrie Holi, President and Chief Operating Officer of Big Island Candies, in a release. “Although the texture and flavor formulations are different between the two cookies, we like to think of them more as ‘confection cousins.’”

A Guava Macadamia Nut Shortbread Assorted Combo  box will also be introduced in time for the Merrie Monarch Festival beginning in Hilo on April 17.

The Guava Macadamia Nut Shortbread boasts a distinctive pink hue with a flavor that’s an unmistakable expression of guava, balanced by the macadamia pieces.

A White Dipped Guava Macadamia Nut Shortbread imparts a whisper of vanilla as it partially coats the cookie with a creamy glaze.

The 19-piece Guava Macadamia Nut Shortbread Assorted Combo will include nine pieces of Guava Macadamia Nut Shortbread and 10 pieces of White Dipped Guava Macadamia Nut Shortbread in a signature Big Island Candies gift box, which will retail for $16 at the company’s Hilo flagship store and factory.

Cookies will also be available online and via mail order. Oahu customers can pick up a box at Big Island Candies’ Ala Moana storefront.
